Flip a normal map that came in inverted, right from the PBR
panel
- Fix a normal map that came in
flipped. A model built for the other graphics API shows up
with dents where there should be bumps. A new switch under
Meshes > PBR > Normal Map flips it back with one click, for
just that mesh or every mesh in the scene, and pressing it again
flips it right back.

Click to find any layer, and watch the Fur Factory work as it
grows
Painting
- Ctrl+click the model to jump
straight to that layer. Hold Ctrl and click anywhere on
your model and the Layers panel highlights whichever layer
actually has paint under your cursor, so you never have to hunt
through a long stack to find what you are editing.
- The eraser finally looks like
an eraser. Its cursor is a small square now instead of the
same crosshair the brush uses, so you can tell which tool is
active at a glance.
Eraser
- The steep angle limit now runs
5 to 180 degrees. Dialing in exactly how far a stroke
wraps around a hard edge is easier now, and every step of the
slider actually does something.
- Fur Factory markings now show
up on your model. Spots and a back stripe that only ever
appeared in the preview now grow right onto the model itself, and
a finished coat simply says "Done!" instead of a wall of
numbers.
- Watch the Fur Factory work, and
actually stop it if you need to. Growing a coat now shows a
real progress bar with a percentage and time remaining, and the
Stop button works right away instead of waiting for the whole
grow to finish first.
Import and export
- 32 bit TGA textures load
correctly, even packed inside an FBX. Some of these used to
come in invisible or full of holes because of how their alpha
channel was stored. They are read directly by MechaPaint now,
whether they sit beside the model or are embedded right in the
file, and they come in facing the right way too.
Mesh import
- FBX exports hold onto more of
what 3ds Max put in the original file. Textures and video
nodes from a Max scene that MechaPaint does not paint over now get
carried through to every export, so round tripping a file back
into 3ds Max keeps far more of its original setup intact.
- File Info can now show you
everything hiding in a 3ds Max FBX. A new "3DS Max
Additional Settings" section lists every texture and video node
Max wrote into the file, including anything MechaPaint's importer
used to skip over quietly.
