Ambient Occlusion Bake

Contact shadows in every crease, seam, and recess, computed from the mesh itself and written straight to the texture. The single fastest way to make a model stop looking like a toy.

Flat-lit models read as cheap. Open the Lighting sidebar, choose AO, and Bake. MechaPaint computes ambient occlusion from the geometry, the soft shadow that gathers where surfaces meet, and writes it into the texture so the model looks grounded even in an engine or viewer with no lighting of its own.

On its own layer

The bake lands on a dedicated layer with its own opacity. Nothing is welded to your base texture until you say so, so you stay non-destructive the whole way through.

Bake in a region

A movable, resizable region window lets you aim the bake through a see-through hole so only what shows through gains AO, front-most surface only, leaving the rest of the layer untouched. Tweak the sliders and bake a second region without wiping the first.
