Region Fill
Draw a shape on screen and fill what falls inside it, with the edge as something you place rather than something you have to get right in one gesture.
VIDEO ON THE WAY
Final video is on the way, thank you for your patience!
Draw a lasso, polygon, circle or rectangle, then move, resize or invert it before committing. Each region has its own feather for a soft border, can paint through to hidden surfaces, and can be renamed, duplicated, saved to the library or turned into a reference image. Regions stay around as objects you can come back to, not one-shot selections.
Option bar
Two pills. The first sets how the shape is applied:
- Brush - Draw and let go and the fill lands right away, with nothing left on screen. The preview shows your brush color at its Opacity, with the selected texture inside it.
- Region - The shape stays as a movable, resizable window with a Fill button, so you can adjust it and fill more than once.
The second sets the shape:
- Lasso - Freeform. Drag to draw any outline.
- Polygon - Click to place corners. Hold Shift for 45 degree steps. Click the first point, or right-click or middle-click, to finish.
- Circle - Click the center, drag out the radius.
- Rectangle - Click and drag one corner to the opposite one.
The region window
In Region mode the shape gets a title bar. Drag the empty part of it to move the region like a window, and the radial gradient hotspot moves with it.
- X - Saves the region to Live Regions and closes it.
- Triangle - Opens the More options menu.
- Bucket - Fills the region.
More options
- Name - The region's name.
- Feathered edge - On or off. A soft border instead of a hard one.
- Fill outside - On or off. Inverts the fill.
- Paint through - On or off. Paints hidden surfaces as well as visible ones.
- Save Camera Relationship - Stores the current camera pose against the region.
- Restore Camera Relationship - Puts the camera back where it was. Comes alive once a pose has been saved.
- Duplicate region - Makes a copy of the region.
- Save to Library - Keeps the shape for reuse.
- Create Reference from Region - Turns what is inside the region into a reference image.
Notes
- Region shapes are screen-space. Save and Restore Camera Relationship bring the camera back to the exact view a region was drawn in.
- Alt or Cmd held is the camera passthrough modifier while you are drawing.
- Switching to Brush apply mode clears a finished region. Changing the shape cancels a drawing in progress but keeps a finished region.
- Region Fill is built for the desktop, with a mouse or a pen in hand.
