Notes
Leave written art direction and critique in the scene itself.
VIDEO ON THE WAY
Final video is on the way, thank you for your patience!
A note is a title and a body, with an optional green arrow you drag onto the exact spot on the model it is about. Notes save with the project and stay visible while you use other tools, which is the point: you paint with the note still on screen. Only the option bar follows the tool selection.
Option bar
- New Note - Adds a note to this scene.
- List of Notes - Opens and closes a window listing every note in the scene.
- Count - Reads "No notes", "1 note" or "N notes".
The note window
- Header - The title, and the drag handle. Drag it to move the note.
- Red X - Closes the note. It stays in the scene, and you can reopen it from the List of Notes.
- Yellow minus - Minimizes the note onto the model, leaving a note icon standing on the spot the arrow points at. Aim the arrow first to give the icon a spot to stand on. Until then the button dims and acts as a plain close.
- Green arrow - A three-step cycle. With no arrow, it puts one beside the note for you to drag onto the model. With an arrow that has never been aimed, it removes it. With an aimed arrow, it retracts the tip back beside the note, which is the way to reach a tip you dragged behind the model or off the edge of the viewport.
- Title and body - Both editable. The body scrolls when it overflows, and follows the caret as you type.
- A- and A+ - One font size for the whole note, from 9 to 32, default 12.
- Resize grip - The blue circle at the bottom right. Minimum size is 200 by 140.
- Arrow tip - Drag it to aim the note at a point on the model.
Three states
- Open - The window is on screen.
- Minimized - The window is gone and the note's icon stands on the model over the point the arrow was aimed at. Click the icon to reopen it.
- Closed - Nothing is left on screen. Reopen it from the List of Notes.
Both the yellow minus and the red X keep the note safe in the scene.
List of Notes
One row per note, with Show to open it and Delete to remove it. Deleting happens here and only here, and it asks first. Escape closes the window.
The viewport badge
Upper left of the viewport, beside the Texture button. It carries the count, blank when there are none, and clicking it picks up the Notes tool so the dock lights up with it.
Notes on notes
- The arrow's anchor is stored in the model's own local space, so it keeps pointing at the right place when the model is moved or rescaled. A world position would drift silently.
- An arrow anchors to visible geometry.
- A note with no title takes its display name from the first line of the body, and failing that reads "Untitled note".
- Positions and sizes save with the project.
