Wear
Chip the paint off and reveal the bare metal underneath.
VIDEO ON THE WAY
Final video is on the way, thank you for your patience!
Brush along an edge or a corner and the finish comes away where a real object would have taken the knocks. It paints through the same edge and cavity masks the Dirt tool uses, so it favors the exposed geometry instead of landing flat. It looks best used sparingly, on the parts a hand or a wall would reach.
Wear writes metallic and roughness as well as color, which is why the exposed patches read as metal in the light rather than as gray paint.
Option bar
- Metallic - 0 to 100 percent, default 100. How much bare metal the stroke exposes. 100 percent is raw metal.
- Rough - 0 to 100 percent, default 25. How dull the exposed metal is. Low is polished, high is weathered.
Turn PBR display on
Metallic and roughness show once the surface is being shaded with them. Turn on Lighting, BASE MATERIAL, PBR Display. The tool says so once in the status bar each time you select it.
Notes
- Wear rides the brush. Size, hardness, shape, rotation, jitter, spacing, opacity and symmetry all work unchanged, so the bar carries only the two settings that are new.
- The color half of the effect lands as an ordinary dab on the active layer. The metallic and roughness halves go into their own channel targets.
- The baked edge-wear pass is its own feature, covered on the Dirt & Edge-Wear Bakes page.
